Serengeti Enhances Croy Bloom Property Package; Acquires High Grade Copper-Gold showing NR: 2010-06
NR: 2010-06
Vancouver, B.C., June 03, 2010: Serengeti Resources Inc. (SIR: TSX-V; 34S: FSE) is pleased to report that earlier this year it acquired a high grade copper-gold showing known as the Croy vein that lies within Serengeti’s Croy Bloom property, located 85 kilometers South of Northgate Minerals’ Kemess Mine. The Croy vein has had only two previous owners and has been held continuously since its discovery in 1946 until the claims lapsed and then recently were incorporated into Serengeti’s Croy Bloom property.
The Croy showing consists of six mineralized fractures and veins hosted in altered volcanic rocks. Feldspar porphyry dykes are associated with the veins and may be indicative of a buried porphyry copper-gold system. The most significant of these veins, Zone 5, consists of massive chalcopyrite-pyrite-magnetite and has been traced for 165 meters in length by 1.2 meters wide with an average grade of 9.2% Copper from historic sampling. Included within this is an 106 meter by 0.84 meter zone grading 10.5% Cu, 15.7 g/t Au. A grab sample of the vein collected by Serengeti in 2005 assayed 14.2% Cu, 28.4 g/t Au, 52.6 g/t Ag. Twelve holes have reportedly been drilled in the area and a 1977 report by Chevron Minerals infers a possible 80,000 tonnes grading 3% Cu. Note that this is a non 43-101 compliant estimate and should not be relied upon.
The Croy Bloom property was recently returned to Serengeti upon termination of an option by Newcrest Mining (BC) Limited. Newcrest drilled four holes on the property in 2008 and identified, but did not test, four additional drill targets including one in Karen Cirque that hosts veins similar to the Croy vein located 2.5 kilometers to the North. Davie Creek, a contiguous part of the property, hosts a significant stockwork molybdenum system with the best historic intercept grading 0.072% Mo over 203 meters.
David Moore, President & CEO of Serengeti, said, “We are pleased to have acquired these additional land claims at Croy Bloom. It is a very prospective property which is far from well explored. It is favorably situated from a geological perspective.” The Croy Bloom-Davie Creek property has recently been granted a multi year Notice of Work by the regulatory authorities and The Company will complete a detailed evaluation of the Croy vein area to determine the next exploration steps.
Kwanika Project Update
Serengeti also reports that it has recently been awarded a multi-year Notice of Work permit for the Kwanika project by the regulatory authorities following a lengthy consultation process with a number of audiences, including the First Nations. Preparations are currently underway at the Kwanika camp towards start up of a 10,000 meter, two drill, resource expansion program which we expect to be commencing the third week of June, 2010. “We are eager to start the Kwanika drill campaign”, said Mr. Moore, “The evolving model of Kwanika suggests that the South Zone offers the potential for discovery of near-surface, open-pit mineralization. The objective at Kwanika is to reach our threshold target tonnage and grade, a key element in demonstrating the project’s economic viability.” ….2 page 2 of 2 NR: 2010-06
The Company’s previously reported NI 43-101 compliant resources, combining the South and Central Zones, total 1.1 billion pounds of copper and 1.6 million ounces of gold in the Indicated Resource category, and 1.0 billion pounds of copper and 0.5 million ounces of gold in the Inferred Resource category at a 0.25% copper-equivalent cut-off grade. Upon completion of this summers’ drill program at Kwanika, the Company intends to update the Resource Estimate, followed by a Preliminary Economic Assessment in the second half of 2011.
Other Exploration Targets
Serengeti also reports that as a result of a recently completed ZTEM airborne geophysical survey completed on the Tchentlo property (see NR 2010-05) it has staked additional properties, bringing the land claim area to approximately 8,590 hectares. These additions provide for the new attractive targets located on the periphery of the original property. Final results are still awaited from this survey and upon receipt will be evaluated to determine a follow-up exploration program.
In addition to The Company’s exploration activities in British Columbia, this year’s budget includes $1.0 million allocation for target development work outside of the country.
