Northern Shield Samples Significant Cobalt from its Five Island Property, Nova Scotia
Northern Shield Samples Significant Cobalt from its Five Island
Property, Nova Scotia
OTTAWA, May 31, 2018 /CNW/ - Northern Shield Resources Inc. ("Northern Shield" or the "Com pany") (TSXV: NRN) is pleased to
announce the results of seven (7) grab rock sam ples recently received from the Five Island Cu-Au-Co Property (the "Property) in Nova Scotia.
The Com pany, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Seabourne Resources Inc., can earn up to an 80% interest in the Property pursuant to a
recently announced Option Agreem ent (see News Release, May 22, 2018).
Five of the seven grab sam ples collected assayed between 0.23% and 0.57% Co and up to 0.19 g/t Au. The m ineralization is hosted in a highly
sheared, bleached, brecciated and veined basalt located at the m argin of a granitic intrusion. The basalt shows m ultiple phases of alteration and
deform ation. All seven sam ples were collected within about a 25 m etre radius of each other. Most of the rock sam ples collected were likely sub-
crop though at least one appears to be the top of bedrock.

A stream sedim ent sam ple analysed by the Nova Scotia Departm ent of Natural Resources assaying 650 ppm cobalt (0.07% Co) occurs 700
m etres west from the cobalt showing, suggesting possible continuity of m ineralization along the contact from the cobalt discovery to the stream that
hosts the anom alous sedim ent sam ple.
Further reconnaissance of the Property will com m ence next week. Since overburden is shallow, trenching of the exposed m ineralization is also
being planned to m ap the bedrock and determ ine the extent of m ineralization. The Property is being explored contem poraneously with the Shot
Rock Property where the first batch of stream sedim ent and rock sam ples have recently been shipped for analysis. Shot Rock is being explored
for epitherm al-style gold m ineralization likely related to the Cobequid-Chabucto Fault which links the two property areas.
The style of m ineralization and geologic setting is sim ilar to large Iron Oxide Copper Gold m ines in Australia such as Olym pic Dam , Ernest Henry
and those in the Cloncurry district, som e of which contain relatively high am ounts of cobalt. The host rocks here are also brecciated and highly
altered.
"We are encouraged by the potential for this style of m ineralization on the Five Island Property that has not been effectively explored previously as
indicated by our early successful results. We will focus work on a series of secondary structures whose interaction with the granite seem s to
influence the m ineralization by creating dilatant zones that are then exploited by m ineral bearing fluids," explains Northern Shield President and
CEO, Ian Bliss.
The program s are being overseen by Christine Vaillancourt, P. Geo., the Com pany's Chief Geologist and a Qualified Person under National
Instrum ent 43-101. Sam ples were analyzed by ALS Global in Sudbury, Ontario and in Vancouver, BC, for Au by Fire Assay with ICP-AES
finish and base m etals by four acid digestion and ICP-AES. All standards and duplicates by ALS m eet targeted values.
