TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 14, 2010) –
THIS PRESS RELEASE IS NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION IN THE UNITED STATES OR TO U.S. NEWS WIRE SERVICES
Latin American Minerals Inc. (TSX VENTURE:LAT) (the "Corporation") is pleased to announce that Mr. Richard Boulay (B.Sc. (Geology)) has been appointed Non-Executive Chairman of the Corporation. Mr. Boulay, a director of the Corporation since November 2009, is currently Chief Executive Officer of StrikePoint Gold Inc., a TSX Venture Exchange listed company. He is also a director of San Gold Corporation. Mr. Boulay is a geologist with extensive financial experience, including over 10 years as a mining finance banker.
Recently, Mr. Boulay assisted the Corporation in hosting a Paraguayan delegation during their visit to the Prospector's and Developers Association Convention in Toronto. The delegation consisted of two elected members of the Paraguayan government, two reporters from Paraguay's major news organizations, the head of the Paraguayan mineral department and members of Latin American Minerals' office in Paraguay. Following the convention, the delegation was taken to Winnipeg for a visit to the nearby San Gold Corporation mine and mill complex at Rice Lake where they observed mining operations in an Archean gold-bearing greenstone belt, a geological setting similar to the Corporation's Paso Yobai project in Paraguay.
Waldo A. Perez, interim President and CEO of the Corporation stated, "Since Rick Boulay's appointment as a director he has been active in the preliminary design of the Paso Yobai, Paraguay, gold processing plant. His appointment as Chairman is welcome and timely as our Company proceeds with advanced exploration and development of Paso Yobai."
Paso Yobai Gold Project, Paraguay: Further to the Corporation's press release of February 17, 2010, the laboratory scale scrubber, rod mill and Falcon concentrating unit have arrived at the project. This machinery will be used to test the mineralization in the trenches in the discovery zone and the new gold zone. Ant hills within a 400 meter x 500 meter area in the new gold zone have yielded results of 0.1 to 1.7 g/t Au. Sampling of ant hills has proven to be a useful technique to identify near-surface gold mineralization in tropical climates such as Paraguay.
Tendal Zinc Project, Argentina: With the improvement in the world zinc price, there is interest in this large and prospective property and the Corporation is actively seeking a joint venture partner.
Itapotii Diamond Project, Paraguay: The Corporation is seeking a joint venture partner for this prospective property.
New Heavy Rare Earth Campaign: Relying on its significant network throughout South America and its technically experienced geological team, the Corporation has commenced a campaign to identify and, if warranted, acquire promising heavy rare earth exploration properties in South America, commencing in Paraguay and Argentina where the Corporation has operations.
