RIO GRANDE APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR
Vancouver, BC, September 11, 2012: Rio Grande Mining Corp. (RGV - TSX-V) (the “Company”) is pleased to announce that it has appointed Mr. Read Taylor as a director of the Company.
Mr. Taylor has held key management positions in the oil industry for over 29 years. He currently serves as Senior Executive Vice President and Board Member for Petra Energia, a diversified integrated Brazilian Energy, Mining and Renewables Group. Mr. Taylor has been involved with several exploration and production startups in South America and the USA. He was recently President and CEO and Board Member of Petro Vista Energy, a TSX listed public company focused in South America. Prior to that, he served as General Manager and President of Devon Energy Brazil Ltd. (NYSE:DVN; Market Cap USD $38.79 B) where he led a team ultimately responsible for several significant discoveries in shallow and deepwater offshore Brazil currently under development and part of the acquisition by BP. Prior to his work in Brazil, Mr. Taylor served with US energy industry notables UNOCAL and Anadarko in various international field locations in technical and commercial management positions. His background includes geophysics and geology for exploration and development, gas marketing, legal negotiations and business development. He has also been successful in several oil and gas international acquisitions and divestitures in Indonesia, China, Brazil, Egypt, and Europe.
Mr. Taylor is the founder and current Chairman of RICE International Relief a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medicines and pure water purification to those in need around the world. RICE has been involved in relief projects in over 26 countries, including Thailand tsunami, Burma cyclone, Katrina, Haiti earthquake, Philippines mudslide. RICE is currently building a school and providing aid in Uganda as well as providing long term assistance in Burma. RICE also provides ongoing support to several medical clinics and homeless shelters in USA.
Mr. Taylor has a B.Sc. in International Business from Pepperdine University, a B.Sc. in Geophysics and M.Sc. (Masters) degree in Geology from University of Southern California, USC. Harvard Executive Management 2011. He is currently based in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
